Elevating the modern kitchen: inside the partnership between Herbert Direct and Sige

Ask any premium kitchen installer and they will tell you that true luxury lies in the engineering you cannot see from across the room.

When it comes to high-end kitchen design, it is easy to get caught up in the external aesthetics: the custom cabinetry, the sleek stone countertops and the statement appliances. But true luxury is about how smoothly a drawer glides open, how efficiently a corner cabinet uses space, and how seamlessly an organisation system adapts to the chaos of daily life.

At the heart of the UK's bespoke kitchen industry is a supply chain alliance delivering exactly that kind of hidden luxury: the partnership between Herbert Direct and Sige.

As the official UK distributor for the Italian manufacturing powerhouse for over 20 years, Herbert Direct bridges the gap between top-tier European innovation and the British trade professionals who build spectacular spaces.

The power of true synergy: British distribution meets Italian engineering

For over 23 years, the family-run team at Herbert Direct has built a reputation for sourcing and supplying distinctive, premium components to the kitchen and furniture industries. When looking for a partner to anchor their storage solutions category, they found the perfect match in Sige, an Italian innovator renowned for elevating functional kitchen hardware into high art.

Sige does not just build wirework, they engineer movement. By combining Sige's cutting-edge product design with Herbert Direct's customer-focused, rapid UK distribution, including next-day delivery on key orders, the two companies offer a reliable, full-service pipeline for the luxury trade.

Solved: the kitchen's toughest design challenges

The strength of a supplier relationship is ultimately judged by the problems it solves for the end user. The Herbert Direct and Sige inventory addresses the three areas of kitchen planning that cause installers the most trouble.

Defeating dead corners

Products like the Classic Easy Access Corner Solution completely transform awkward corner cabinets. Equipped with soft-close mechanisms and gas piston soft-open actions, the entire four-basket array pulls clear out of the cabinet for effortless access, supporting gross weights up to 64kg.

The mechanism is un-handed. The same part goes into a left or right hand cabinet, so there is no handing to get wrong on site. It needs 503mm of internal depth, stands 560mm high, and will work around a corner post up to 70mm.

Door widths run 400, 450, 500 and 600mm, covering unit sizes from 800mm up to 1200mm. Minimum apertures are 355, 395, 445 and 525mm in that order. Where the corner is square rather than hinged on one side, the Classic 90 degree carousel takes two 800mm chrome trays at 15kg a shelf, for a 900 by 900mm cabinet between 685 and 730mm high.

Maximising vertical space

The Sige pull-out larder collection features full-extension runners, adjustable frames up to 2180mm and load capacities reaching 150kg, giving homeowners pantry-level storage within narrow cabinet spaces.

Frames adjust across six height bands between 675mm and 2180mm, carrying two baskets at the shortest and six at the tallest. The same larder is made for 300, 400, 450, 500 and 600mm cabinet widths. Anything above 1215mm high takes four door fixing brackets rather than two.

Two things catch installers out. Every larder needs 503mm of internal depth. And a 500 or 600mm wide larder wants an extra central leg under the cabinet. Mid-height and tall larders carry 150kg gross; a base height larder carries 110kg.

Optimising the forgotten zones

From the Classic Undersink Organiser, which integrates towel hangers and bottle dividers around plumbing lines, to soft-closing waste systems, the collaboration ensures no square inch of cabinetry goes to waste.

The undersink pull-out comes in two widths, for minimum door widths of 300mm and 450mm, and the mechanism fits left or right hand. It stands 430mm high and needs 445mm of internal depth, so it clears a trap and a waste pipe instead of fighting them.

It runs on a 30kg base-fixed soft-close runner and comes with a grey plastic base tray plus the accessories that make the towel hanger and the bottle dividers. Under the same sink, the Sige undersink bins drop into the shape the plumbing leaves rather than the shape a bin would prefer.

Why the trade trusts the alliance

For independent kitchen fitters, interior designers and bespoke furniture manufacturers, the relationship between these two brands brings peace of mind. Sige products are rigorously tested, often to over 200,000 cycles, so call-backs from clients are virtually non-existent. Meanwhile, Herbert Direct provides the local technical expertise, accessible customer service and stock availability that the trade relies on to keep projects moving on schedule.

As modern kitchen designs lean further into smart optimisation and seamless aesthetics, the synergy between Herbert Direct's local market presence and Sige's Italian engineering remains a cornerstone of premium British kitchen design.
